University of Canterbury Student Association (UCSA) Full time Permanent The Opportunity The University of Canterbury Students' Association (UCSA) is seeking an experienced and motivated Commercial Manager to oversee our catering operations in Canterbury and the Waikato, and manage our wide range of facilities. As the 2IC to the Commercial Director, you will be integral in driving the success of our Commercial Operations, stepping in with delegated financial authority when required. Your role will include overseeing catering services, facilities maintenance, relationship management, and staff leadership, while driving continuous improvement and business growth. You’ll be instrumental in creating memorable experiences for students, staff, and clients, ensuring that operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. About You We are looking for a leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working well both independently and within a team. You should be approachable, empathetic, and reliable, with a strong sense of professionalism. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to interpret and analyse financial reporting, effectively manage multiple tasks, and maintain high attention to detail. Strong organisational, delegation, and management skills, as well as the ability to prioritise and work under pressure, are crucial. Self-motivation, time management, and a proactive approach will also be key to your success in this role. Experience working within the hospitality/catering sector, as well as knowledge of local contractors and suppliers, will be beneficial. A solid understanding of events and their requirements is essential, and prior experience in facilities management or relationship management is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and IT systems is required. About UCSA Established in 1894, the UCSA is a registered not-for-profit organisation that supports UC students to succeed and belong. Our organisation is governed by an elected Student Executive, and we employ over 300 staff. Together, we dish up a range of student-focused services, including advocacy and welfare, representation, subsidised dental and optometry, early learning centres, club support, events, and media. The UCSA commercial team manages several cafes and bars, as well as sizeable catering and events teams delivering services to students, staff, external customers, and commercial partners.
