About Our Client Founded in 1829, the Metropolitan Police Service (the Met) is one of the oldest police services in the world. From the beginning, the purpose of the Met has been to serve and protect the people of London by providing a professional police service. Despite the challenges we have faced recently, this remains our purpose. At the Metropolitan Police Service, they spend over £840 million each year on a diverse range of goods and services. As a member of the Commercial Services Function, you will be directly supporting the MPS mission to make life safer for over 9 million Londoners. There has never been a better time to come and work as a Commercial Consultant within the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). At the heart of Commercial Services is the newly created Commercial Assurance team, driving change across the MPS. This role sits within this team and focuses on commercial strategy and assurance, commercial risk reporting and management. The role offers plenty of scope for leadership opportunities in this area. The role-holder will get to work across government and with organisations that form part of the Greater London Authority, and work across critical procurements and contracts, which protect Londoners. We are looking for someone who is diligent, creative and analytical; who has commercial and/or strategic and/or risk management experience. Job Description Understand MPS' commercial strategy and feed into planning based on commercial approaches that deliver requirements that are in line with the business' needs, category strategies and market trends. Analyse performance, risk and assurance through the provision of high quality guidance and insightful analytical products that enable leaders to understand the performance, risk and assurance environment in which they are operating. This includes the management of supply network risk. Support audit activities to ensure they are facilitated and executed to a high standard. Undertake governance and assurance activities and utilise these to highlight areas of risk or make recommendations for change. Ensure clear communication of regulatory, legislative and best practice changes and their obligations under these changes, and how they will impact Commercial Services and the wider MPS business. Aid in the development of policy and strategy in order to bolster commercial assurance practices. Provide mentoring and guidance to junior members of the team. The Successful Applicant Experience of working in a complex environment; understanding and working knowledge of risk management, corporate governance and internal controls within the public sector or large organisations. Understand the principles of end-to-end commercial lifecycle management along with extensive knowledge of the key aspects of governance, commercial policy and relevant legislation, ideally within the public sector. An understanding of supply chain management gained through experience. Experience of data analysis and risk management. Strong Excel skills. What's on Offer Civil Service Pension - 28% employer contribution. 28 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), rising to 33 days after 5 years. Hybrid and flexible working, with on average 3 days per week in the office in Kilburn. Attractive benefits package.
