Peterborough Presents are looking for artists who identify as Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent (DDN) and of all creative disciplines, to apply for a new, accessible residency in the city starting Spring 2025. The timing of this commission is critical as we aim to mark the 30-year anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act and 15-year anniversary of the Equality Act in 2025. We are looking for artist(s) / creative(s) to lead a programme of creative engagement with the DDN community from Spring – Autumn 2025. The outcome of the residency is to create a new piece, performance, exhibition or installation that culminates in Autumn 2025. Proposals must respond to the following principles: Link to the theme of ‘Reasonable Adjustment’ (a reference to the Disability Discrimination Act 1995). Create a programme that helps people to explore the impact of the Disability Discrimination Act and the Equality Act for them and their community. Bring voices and people together in an accessible format. Engage hundreds of people through campaigns and mass-participation, or choose to work with a smaller, more focused group. Provide a place for both confident and modest voices and contributions. Bring joy and celebration and/or be activist in nature. Have a creative digital focus, be hands-on, or both. Actively involve the community in creating content and in the final production. Focus on engaging those who identify as being Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent, while also welcoming friends, family, and allies. Although we do not ask artists to know exactly what they wish to produce at this stage, we expect the residency to lead to an output, such as an exhibition or performance. Selection Criteria

Artists with at least 5 years experience of working with communities. Experience of producing work for a variety of audiences, especially DDN audiences. We particularly welcome applications from artists who have a personal connection to the area/region. Artists who identify as being Deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent. Artists of all disciplines including visual art, performance, installation, outdoor arts, street art, poetry, music, dance, theatre, photography, and film. Artists who are passionate about helping people to tell their stories or express opinions. Experience of delivering high-quality engagement as well as high-quality artistic outputs. Peterborough Presents is committed to championing diversity in all its forms, particularly those who are underrepresented or undersupported in the arts. We welcome the unique contributions that artists from all walks of life can bring. Budget + Fees

A total of £5000 will be awarded to the commissioned artist/organisation. Artists will spend approximately 15-25 days working on the project. The £5000 fee is inclusive of VAT + any costs associated with designing the work. An additional budget of £4000 is available to support the production, installation, and maintenance of the final work. Up to £1500 is available to support access and/or travel costs for the artist. Independent artists must have their own Public Liability Insurance and be registered as self-employed. Artists must also be available to take part in reflective and evaluative discussions about their work. How To Apply

Applications will be assessed by a panel of community representatives, working with the Peterborough Presents team. We advise all applicants to refrain from using jargon and terminology which isn’t easily understood by a non-specialist audience. Shortlisted artists may be invited to an informal interview over Zoom with the community panel.
