Competitive What You’ll be doing: The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer role is a compliance and quality assurance position within the KBS Design Team, as part of our Asset Management directorate. The position provides expertise and coordinates the commissioning resources for the development of quality and compliance programmes for projects. This includes early participation in project design development, guidance on commissioning requirements and on-site inspections, testing and witnessing throughout project delivery to handover. You’ll be heavily involved in conducting other commissioning related activities and assisting commissioning team members when required and incorporates elements of a Clerk of Works role. Additionally, you’ll maintain good relationships with both internal and external customers, encourage close relationships between the KBS Design Team, Project Delivery Teams, and specialist sub-contractors throughout the duration of the project to ensure that critical interfaces are identified, agreed and dealt with in a timely manner.

You’ll Have: Ideally, you’ll have familiarity with numerous mechanical systems including (but not limited to); HVAC, gas, steam, fresh water, sewage, Combined Heat and Power Plants, Low Temperature Hot Water, Building Management Systems (BMS) and general mechanical plant. You’ll also understand workshop systems including Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV), workshop machinery, plant and lifting machinery, High / Low Pressure Air systems, and utility distribution systems, including steam, gas and water networks. Knowledge of building regulations, approved documents and British standards for mechanical systems, and relevant regulations including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, F-gas, Legionella, DSEAR, etc. is essential, and the natural ability to work directly with sub-contractors without direct management supervision and instruction is encouraged. Experience of dealing with M&E contractors on site and at management level, knowledge of CIBSE part M Commissioning Management or BSRIA Commissioning Job Book, and experience of working on a contract within a Ministry Defence organisation are all desirable competencies required for an extremely diverse and fulfilling role. Lastly, you’ll be conversant with IT systems for monitoring, tracking and feeding back on status of work packages (computer literacy). About you: You’ll hold an ONC or HNC in a mechanical or engineering discipline and be a strong influencer to be able to build rapport with confidence (suitable and sufficient qualifications and experience will also be considered). With influential ability, you’ll be able to showcase a flexible approach to working procedures, be strongly orientated towards achieving positive outcomes and results, and embrace customer management along with key internal and external stakeholders. Coupled with these key attributes, you’ll champion excellent interpersonal ability, excellent planning and organisational proficiency and consistently exercise planning and initiative mastery through varying day-to-day opportunity and responsibility.
