Communications and Advocacy Lead – Riverwoods Salary: £30,000 - £34,500 Location: Edinburgh, Leith (Harbourside House) with flexibility through hybrid working Status: Full time, fixed term until June 2028 Closing date: Sunday 12 January 2025 About us: For 60 years, the Scottish Wildlife Trust has worked with its members, partners and supporters in pursuit of its vision of healthy, resilient ecosystems across Scotland’s land and seas. The Trust successfully champions the cause of wildlife through policy and campaigning work, demonstrates best practice through practical conservation and innovative partnerships, and inspires people to take positive action through its education and engagement activities. It also manages a network of over 100 wildlife reserves across Scotland and is a member of the UK-wide Wildlife Trusts movement. The Riverwoods Initiative has a vision of: Creating a network of thriving riverbank woodlands and healthy river systems across Scotland. ‘Riverwoods: A Blueprint for River Woodland Recovery’ (the Blueprint Project) is a partnership project within the Initiative that will support the realisation of the vision. The Blueprint Project is made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players. The Role: Lead on the delivery of a Riverwoods Communications Plan to raise the profile of the project and showcase project activity. Oversee and support the delivery of a Riverwoods Advocacy Strategy and Plan to engage key stakeholders, influence policy and ensure support for Riverwoods. Develop, deliver and monitor effective social media campaigns to engage people in river woodland restoration. Write and issue press releases for the project and respond to media enquiries. Write a series of policy and sectorial briefing documents to ensure that river woodland creation and restoration can take place at scale across Scotland. Organise and attend key stakeholder events and meetings, including Parliamentary exhibits, Riverwoods Project site visits, and the Royal Highland Show. The candidate will ideally have: Demonstrable experience in relevant positions and/or relevant disciplines. Experience writing press releases, handling media enquiries and securing coverage in national media. Experience managing and creating website and social media content. Comprehensive understanding of the Scottish policy landscape. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with and inspire diverse public, volunteer, and stakeholder audiences. Experience of event management and planning. Experience of producing and editing short promotional films. Experience of partnership working with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
