Job Description

Communications Manager - £40,000pa Hybrid Role - 2 days a week in London HQ Illuminate are working with a well established and rapidly transforming Royal Society to grow their Communications team within the Engagement Directorate. We are searching for an ambitious, and resilient comms professional to work closely with their Head of Communications to shape and execute a strategic communications approach. This role will be focused on boosting engagement with internal and external audiences and enhance their brand's awareness and reputation across various platforms, including social media, media relations, website, and internal communications. What will I be responsible for? Social Media: Lead the creation and delivery of social media content. Monitor metrics and seek opportunities to increase engagement. Content Creation: Craft and manage communications materials like presentations, blogs, Q&A documents, thought leadership articles, videos, and social media posts. Storytelling: Identify and develop opportunities for strategic content creation and storytelling, implementing cross-platform communications activities. PR & Media Relations: Develop and implement media relations plans to enhance our reputation. Manage media relationships to the highest standards. Press Releases: Draft and issue press notes, quotes, briefing documents, and press releases. Reputation Management: Conduct horizon scanning, identify issues and opportunities, and advise leadership accordingly. Internal Communications: Develop and execute comprehensive internal communication plans. Brand Development: Support the creation of key messaging and narratives to continually develop our brand. Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with internal and external colleagues, providing strategic counsel. Cross Promotion: Identify and act on marketing communications opportunities, ensuring a holistic approach to external and internal outputs. Process Improvement: Seek improvements to ensure high-quality communications across the organization. What knowledge and experience will you need to thrive in this role? Essential: Minimum of three years in a communications role, in-house or agency. Degree in communications or related field, or equivalent experience. Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills. Strong storytelling and copywriting abilities. Excellent news sense and attention to detail. Proven public relations experience with successful campaign delivery. Proficiency in day-to-day social media activity and integrated campaigns. Experience in producing varied communications assets. Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills. Expertise in issues and reputation management. Confident in offering evidenced communications advice. Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion. Desirable: Experience developing and executing communication strategies. Internal communication experience. Knowledge of brand positioning and integrated communications delivery. Experience in achieving commercial objectives. Press release writing for academic papers. Proficiency in social media scheduling and media monitoring platforms.
