The Complementary Therapist reports into the Inpatient Unit Manager and is responsible for providing a high standard of complimentary therapy service on the Inpatient Unit, and across the hospice where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
The role entails but is not limited to: As part of the multi-disciplinary team, provide complementary therapy services across all service areas including outpatients, inpatients and community as required. Providing a range of individualised complementary therapy to patients and carers. Undertaking thorough holistic assessments of patients and carers across all services. Identifying physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Identifying contraindications, precautions and indications for treatment and treating patients and carers safely and appropriately. Document care given within electronic patient notes according to recognised standards. Observing changes in the patients condition and feedback as required to the multi-disciplinary team. Attending multi-disciplinary meetings/handovers as required. Laundering and replenishing equipment, ensuring adequate supplies for service delivery, maintaining appropriate stock levels of supplies. Taking part in or lead therapeutic groups as required. Undertaking and delivering education activities and audit as appropriate. Assisting with the development and implementation of complementary therapy policies, procedures and standards. Maintaining membership of appropriate professional association such as the Federation of Holistic Therapists. Assessing own learning needs and identifying opportunities to address these. Attending mandatory training when required. Keeping up to date with local and national developments in complementary therapy in palliative care. Participating in clinical supervision and appraisal process. Working with HR in the recruitment and selection of volunteers, including providing inductions for Complementary Therapy volunteers. Supervising, assigning caseloads and supporting complementary therapy volunteers, monitoring their caseloads to ensure safe and effective delivery of care. Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive and patient information. Participating in the assessment of risk and thereby contributing towards clinical and corporate governance agenda as appropriate. Producing work of a high standard and with accuracy and attention to detail. Keeping updated on all matters relating to Hospice policy. Person Specification

Ability and skills to provide student and staff supervision and mentorship. Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and contentious information. Teaching, assessment and presentation skills. Advanced IT skills. Ability to manage a busy workload. Ability to problem solve and respond to queries. Qualifications
Level 3 qualifications in two or more of the following: Massage, Aromatherapy, Reiki, Reflexology, crystal therapy, oncology massage. Evidence of Continuous Professional Development. Diploma Level in Aromatherapy & Reflexology, Massage. Membership of Professional Organisation, e.g. Federation of Holistic Therapies (FHT). Experience
Extensive experience in complementary therapy in a variety of settings. Evidence of continued professional development. Demonstrated ability to work as part of an inter-disciplinary team and work independently. Demonstrates sound clinical practice knowledge appropriate to Specialist Palliative Care level practice, in Palliative Care, Oncology or Community setting. Experience of ensuring continuous improvement. Previous experience of working in a hospice and/or health and social care environment. Experience in palliative care or life limiting conditions. Experience and competence in handling situations of grief and loss and patient advocating. Values
