NB – this is a full-time role (part-time also available) with rostered early, mid, late and night shifts

making a total full-time salary of £40,398

Your role

As a Border Force Officer in International Trade, you'll play a key role in ensuring the smooth and legitimate movement of goods through some of the UK's busiest ports. The role is fast-paced, constantly evolving and critical in protecting the UK from prohibited imports while enhancing its reputation as a global business hub. You'll be part of a supportive team throughout your career, working on diverse tasks from managing commodities to enforcing laws on endangered species and counterfeit goods, all while contributing to the UK’s broader trade strategy.

What your work may involve

Operating customs controls at points of import/export to the UK and checking goods and documents to ensure compliance with Customs

Inspecting goods and vehicles to identify if any customs offences have occurred

Investigating shipments and deciding if they can proceed or need further checks

Handling irregularities and taking follow-up actions

Working with trade companies, government departments, and port operators to ensure smooth border processes.

Using law enforcement powers to arrest people, seize goods and collaborate with other law enforcement partners on Border offences

Training and Development

Initial 5 to 8 weeks of full-time ‘classroom’ training including Public and Personal Safety Training

‘On the job’ training with a mentor supporting you until you are fully confident. Even then you are never alone: your team are always around for advice and support

NB - You will need to complete a health declaration and/or medical examination as a level of fitness is necessary to pass the training.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submitting your application

You must be a UK National and a UK resident for the last 5 years (and undertake Security Clearance)
