Waste Managed Compliance Officer The Compliance Officer will be responsible for helping the company comply with internal and external regulations and avoid any sanctions that could impact the company adversely. This role is key to maintaining the company’s reputation and integrity.

The duties will include working with management and staff to identify regulatory risks and designing internal controls to ensure compliance within the organisation.

They will also liaise with the Biffa Group compliance teams to seek guidance and advice when necessary. The Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with legal requirements and internal policies and procedures, and their main duties and responsibilities include: Keep up to date with, and understand, relevant laws and regulations. Manage and record the outcomes of all customer SARS requests in line with current regulations. Perform risk assessments and compliance audits to understand risk level, significance and scope. Monitor compliance with laws, regulations and internal policies. Interpret and communicate regulatory changes, ensuring that your findings are recorded and followed up with management. Assist managers to identify solutions to compliance issues. Implement preventative and/or corrective measures to mitigate risk. Educate employees on both the regulations and the impact on the organisation if they aren't complied with. Investigate irregularities and non-compliance issues. Report back to business functions on current risk and compliance performance. Highlight or escalate areas of concern. Champion compliance best practice and contribute to robust and effective compliance controls within the organisation. Review marketing materials, presentations and websites to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Assist in the gathering of internal information in response to regulatory requests. Perform various general administrative duties (such as file creation and maintenance of ongoing administrative projects). Manage voluntary best practice relating to professional standards. Maintain, review and update the organisation's internal procedures and policies. Collaborate with other departments to create a culture of compliance. Help to prepare the company to retain the UKAS standard ISO 9001 and 14001 standards and assessments. Act as the company’s Data Protection Officer. Maintain and develop the company Integrated Management System. Ensure compliance with the Environment Agency regulations and liaise with them when necessary. Review and update company policies annually. Ensure building legislative requirements are upheld which includes liaison with building owners to ensure they understand their requirements and make checks against compliance. Liaise closely with the CTO to review compliance with cyber security, data privacy and technology, integrating IT risk management into the company’s strategy.
