Consultant Anaesthetist Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to recruit a Consultant in Anaesthesia; this is an expansion post and will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic team focused on providing high quality patient care for a diverse range of patients.
The Trust retained its ‘Good’ rating by the CQC in April 2020, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities.
Anaesthetists at Mid Cheshire Hospitals benefit from working in excellent clinical facilities. The department has recently achieved ACSA accreditation.
The main theatre area comprises of 8 theatres including a barn theatre for orthopaedics and 2 fully integrated theatres for endoscopic and laparoscopic work, and one 24-hour a day emergency theatre. The Treatment Centre comprises of 4-day case theatres, 5 endoscopy rooms and a recovery area.
The Critical Care Unit located adjacent to the theatre suite has been expanded. This provides an integrated 18 bedded area with four potential isolation rooms and the ability to cohort into a four-bedded area separate from the main unit.
A Surgical Admission Lounge (SAL) next to theatre admits patients on the day for elective operations.
The award-winning Maternity Department consists of a self-contained midwife led unit with 3 rooms with birthing pools. The delivery suite has 6 standard delivery rooms, 2 theatres and a 2 bedded recovery area.
Main duties of the job The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training at the date of interview.
Duties will include anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases including paediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics, and general surgery.
This post will contribute to the Consultant Anaesthetist on-call rota and undertake 3 weekend trauma lists a year.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities There are a variety of surgical lists available, and the post will include paediatric theatre sessions, obstetric sessions and emergency or trauma sessions. Paediatric sessions may be in ENT, dental, ophthalmology, urology or general surgery.
The post comes with 2.0 SPA sessions per week (based on 10 PAs), and active involvement in the governance, educational and quality improvement activity of the department is expected.
There will be opportunities to contribute to all aspects of the department’s activities, and those of the wider Trust.
Person specification Qualifications
Full registration with the GMC with a Licence to Practise
FRCA or equivalent Diploma
Substantial and relevant experience in anaesthesia
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: • CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months if interview) • CESR or • European Community Rights
At least one year’s experience of working in the NHS
Clinical skills and training
Higher training in general, urological and gynaecological anaesthesia, and day case anaesthesia
Higher training in anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery and regional anaesthesia
Higher training in obstetric anaesthesia
Higher training in trauma and stabilisation
APLS & ALS (or equivalents)
ATLS (or equivalent)
6 months training in paediatric anaesthesia (with a minimum of 3 months at a tertiary centre)
Active regular participation in teaching and training of medical and para-medical colleagues
Regular commitment to continuing medical education
Extensive / formal experience in medical education including regional teaching
Life support course instructor
Clinical governance
Active consistent engagement with clinical audit
