The Department of Anaesthesia gained ACSA accreditation in 2021. The Critical Care Unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary has 8 level 3 and 8 level 2 beds. The beds are used flexibly to support the high-risk elective and emergency surgical specialities including vascular, as well as critically ill medical patients. This is a busy unit that on average runs at greater than 85% occupancy and admits over 1000 patients each year. We operate within the West Yorkshire Critical Care Operational Delivery Network. This post is to provide anaesthetic services for the variety of surgical specialities as outlined in the timetable. Bradford Teaching Hospitals caters for all surgical specialities except major cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and transplant surgery. Emergency Duties The Department of Anaesthetics has two Consultant Anaesthetists on call each night, one to cover the Critical Care Unit and one to cover acute theatre work and Obstetrics. Clinical Duties The post holder will maintain the highest clinical standards in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. They will work closely with colleagues to share the provision of Anaesthetic advice to all inpatients and collaborate with both medical and nursing staff to improve and advance the service. Responsibilities include teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues, and medical students. The post holder will ensure active participation in continuing professional development (CPD) and is expected to provide flexible cover for annual leave. Experience
Evidence of completing a period of approved training in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Qualifications
MBChB or equivalent, FRCA or equivalent, Member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (UK) or equivalent, CCT or within 6 months of AAC date, On Specialist Register with GMC and continue to hold a licence to practice Disclosure and Barring Service Check
