We are seeking to recruit Consultants in Anaesthesia based at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust provides acute hospital services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale - an area covering 3,400 square miles. We manage ten hospital sites, 1,127 beds (including day cases) and have a workforce of over 8,000 staff working across our hospitals and in the community. Our main sites are in York and Scarborough. York Within the Trust we are part of the Surgery Care Group. We have a Clinical Director responsible for the Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care directorate (TACC) across the Trust. We also have in support Lead Clinicians for Intensive Care, Anaesthetics and Theatres. It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a consultant in anaesthesia based at York Hospital. There is a requirement to provide cross site-working in line with current patterns within the department to support robust and sustainable provision of workforce in anaesthesia. Currently, all of the Consultant provides cross-site work including on-call. 10 Programmed Activities with the option of up to an additional 2 PAs at the discretion of the department. Main duties of the job

The demands of the Anaesthetic department mean that close and ongoing collaboration with consultant colleagues is required. A degree of mutual two-way flexibility in sessional provision is anticipated. Individual job plans will be discussed and finalised with the clinical director on appointment and will become operational on commencement. All jobs plans are agreed in line with the Trust's Job Planning Principles. Job plans will be reviewed annually in line with appraisals. The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant's typical working pattern, duties and responsibilities. It will cover all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities and external commitments. Additional programmed activities may be offered to the post holder, up to a maximum of 2 for full-time posts, taking the maximum total to 12. Any offer of additional programmed activities will be based on the needs of the service and in line with the Trust objectives and will be reviewed on at least an annual basis. A core 1.25 PAs of SPA time is provided per week for consultant and SAS grades to ensure ongoing core professional development and QI work. There is opportunity to increase this amount where need arises and in line with departmental requirements. About us

Qualifications

Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC Hold a license to practise with the General Medical Council Entry on Specialist Register recognised for the award of CCT in Anaesthetics, (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR or European Community Rights (within 6 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent) Substantive experience working in the NHS MD or Equivalent Higher Degree Mentoring and Teaching

Experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees Ability to teach clinical skills Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings Experience of supervision of postgraduate trainees Ability to critically review research Postgraduate medical education certification Organisation of postgraduate education courses Publications in peer-reviewed journals Personal Development Drive
