South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a substantive Consultant Cellular Pathologist to the Pathology Department at Warwick Hospital. This will be a replacement whole time equivalent post. Main duties of the job
In 2008 a single managed network providing all pathology support for South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT), University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) and George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust (GEH) and was established. This network is known as Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) and is hosted by UHCW NHS Trust. CWPS is a modern pathology network embracing the principles of Lord Carter's plan to modernise pathology services. The network has and continues to re-invest savings made through the reorganisation of services around a large hub site to improve the quality and extent of the services offered to patients. In 2015, CWPS acquired the contract to deliver pathology Services to Burton Hospitals NHS Trust, which led to the appointment of 3 additional consultants at SWFT. The Pathology laboratory for UHCW and GEH is centralized at UHCW. The Pathology Department at SWFT is based at Warwick Hospital and is made up of 8 Consultants in histopathology (6.9WTE overall), to which this post is a replacement following retirement. It is expected that the candidate would be forward thinking and innovative in the delivery of the pathology service, and be capable of leading a highly experienced multidisciplinary team. About us

Main Purpose of the Post The Pathology Department is part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Network between South Warwickshire Trust, George Elliot Hospital and University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire. The appointee will be based at Warwick Hospital and the employer would be South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust. This appointee will be required to deliver general and specialised reporting, participate in frozen section reporting and attend multi-disciplinary team (MDT). All of the MDTs are currently delivered via computer link (Microsoft Teams). The appointee will be required to interact with the clinicians and allied health professionals to provide pathological support and leadership required for the delivery of excellent services. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is currently no post mortem service at SWFT. Histopathology and Cytopathology reporting MDT support Cut-up support to the BMS-led structure Frozen section support Main Aims and Objectives of the Post The appointee will be part of a team of 8 Histopathologists, each of whom has a special interest varying from monospecialisation to a more generalised repertoire. The appointment to this post is with a view for the candidate to take part in Gastrointestinal pathology and Breast pathology. Other areas of interest in head and neck pathology, gynaecologic pathology, urologic pathology and skin pathology would be encouraged. We would welcome applicants who would like to work part time. Each post is based on a 10 PA contract for the full-time applicant. Additional PAs may be available following job planning exercise and flexible working patterns can be considered. Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview if UK trained)) FRCPath, or equivalent Research experience and/or higher qualifications Undertaken a fellowship programme to complement the post.
