Job summary

Applications are invited to apply for a Consultant Post in Immunology and Allergy (10PA) within the department of Clinical Immunology and Allergy at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH). The post is suitable for a candidate with a specialist interest in allergy and the successful appointee could start from April 2025. NUH provides a wide range of outpatient services for Clinical Immunology and Allergy patients from within Nottinghamshire and the East Midlands region.

This is a new post and the appointee will join a team of 5 substantive consultants.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work with the Clinical Immunology and Allergy Consultant team to give professional direction and clinical leadership for specialist Clinical Immunology and Allergy services with an emphasis on allergy. This will include supervision and management of patients with allergic conditions and immunodeficiency, contributing to achieving the standards required to maintain QPIDS and IQAS accreditation. The main part of the post will be supporting the allergy services including challenge day case. The immunology aspect of the role can be discussed and agreed upon reflecting service need and the interest of the candidate. In addition, they will contribute to teaching, clinical governance, and audit. You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Immunology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those wishing to job-share.

NUH is committed to supporting and developing new consultants with directed training opportunities, a mentorship scheme, and 2.0 SPAs in their first year (subject to review) to allow the pursuit of relevant new skills.

About us

We are looking for a colleague who is dynamic, flexible, and willing to join a team that delivers high clinical standards in both Clinical Immunology and Allergy. There will be opportunities to get involved in service development as the department evolves its clinical work in a changing NHS environment. The successful applicant will therefore be expected to work collaboratively with our strong multi-disciplinary team to actively drive further service development.

The appointee will be encouraged to support and develop established research and teaching links with Nottingham University. All our Consultants are appointed as Clinical Teachers by Nottingham University.

Job responsibilities

See attached JD for more information and key responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be on the Full and Specialist Register of the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. It is expected that the appointee will hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) or ACICE or show evidence of equivalent training and experience. Because of the significant direct clinical care component of the post, holding the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent is essential.

Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.

We wish to appoint an enthusiastic colleague who will be committed to driving service development. The Department will be flexible in supporting the development of one or more sub-specialty interests in Clinical Immunology and Allergy. As part of their application process, we would encourage prospective candidates to discuss their personal interests with the Divisional Director (Dr Claire Greaves), the Head of Service (Kate Hopkinson), and with other departmental consultant colleagues.

New consultants are actively supported at NUH with a mentoring programme in their early years as a consultant as well as an additional 0.5 PA in the first year to allow development of skills relevant to their new role.
