Job summary The Special Care Dental Service provides Special Care Dentistry and Paediatric Dentistry with Somerset NHS Foundation Trust across both Somerset and Dorset. We are looking for two Consultants (Clinical Services Leads) -- one for Somerset and one for Dorset - in Special Care Dentistry or Paediatric Dentistry, to help lead and develop our Somerset and Dorset teams and shape our community dentistry service. 10 PAs (40 hours) are available for this role. You may currently be working in a role of Consultant, with a strong operational and strategic vision or a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry or Special Care Dentistry, looking for your next step towards a Consultant position. Based either in Somerset or Dorset, we would be looking for someone to support our service for a minimum of 4 days a week, ideally full time, but with some flexibility to be negotiated. Key to this role is to demonstrate leadership experience and/or potential to drive forward the service into the future. We would ask that you are fully registered with the GDC and on the GDC Specialist Register in Special Care Dentistry or Paediatric Dentistry, be accredited or within six months of such accreditation at interview stage and have completed a SAC approved training programme or have demonstrated equivalent experience and training to allow entry to the specialist list by mediated entry. You must also currently be listed on the NHS Dental Performers List, England. Main duties of the job Your role would be to help deliver on the clinical and operational management of dental services, providing a high-quality service in line with the Trust's values, suitable and robust governance frameworks, and the achievement of performance targets. As a senior colleague, you will be working closely with the clinical teams, offering guidance, advice, and support not only for local colleagues in the county where you are working but also for the wider service. Collaborating with our Clinical Director, existing Specialists, senior dentists, and service/operational management, you will help shape the future of our dental service across both counties. Our Community dental services have historically provided a wide range of services and population access. We have been instrumental in developing clinical dental pathways for the South West and have key input into many stakeholder groups, enjoying recognition and support from the Trust leadership and close ties with external colleagues such as the South West Regional Chief Dentist. The job is yours to build, share your vision, and tell us how you think you can make a difference. About us We would love to hear from you to see how your experience could fit with our service needs and how we can help further or fill your career aspirations. As a new team member and individual colleague, you will be very well supported in every aspect of your role. We have empowered teams, experienced line management, and exceptional clinical supervision with exciting opportunities for continued professional development. Living in Somerset or Dorset is a wonderful, high-quality life experience for everyone: Established public transport networks to cities such as Exeter, Bristol, Bath, London Easy access to the M5 motorway Coast, countryside, moors, and hills aplenty Great sports facilities and seasonal cultural events Community Dental Services have many benefits to offer: Clear job planning and framework for management and clinical supervision Appointment times range from 30-90 minutes Invested in consistent and highly skilled dental nurse team support Mature business structure to support and take on claim and administration duties Crown indemnity and PAYE Supported CPD days with opportunities for individual and team working Established links with Training Programme Directors NHS Pension, generous leave, and terms and conditions We can offer a bespoke recruitment/benefits package to suit on joining including a Welcome to Somerset Foundation Trust payment and relocation assistance (subject to criteria). Job responsibilities Please refer to our job description and person specification for full details of this position. Look through our brochure and appreciate the joys and benefits of living and working in Somerset and Dorset. Watch our video and find out a little more about us as colleagues and about our patients too. And then call us. Visits most welcome. Conversation and discussion is the most important start for this role and we welcome informal approaches prior to submission of an application -- whether this is a chat with some of the operational and clinical team members or a visit to one of our clinics in Somerset or Dorset.
