Job summary This post is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary but the post holder will work across hospital sites. They will be responsible for the continued delivery and further development of an already established haematology service for patients living within the catchment area of the Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospital Trust and surrounding areas. On-call is classed as Category A and is a 1:6 Rota, which attracts a 5% on call availability Supplement. Main duties of the job The post holder will work within a team of six Consultant Haematologists, two Specialty Trainees, one Staff Grade, one IMT doctor and 5 Haematology Cancer Nurse Specialists to provide comprehensive Haematology care to patients. There is a dedicated haemato-oncology ward with 12 patient capacity as well as a day unit for delivery of chemotherapy and other intravenous treatments. Job responsibilities To provide, with the other Consultant Haematologists, continuing responsibility for Haematology Services in Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust. To share responsibility for diagnostic services with the other Consultant Haematologists including the day to day supervision of diagnostic tests and interpretation as required. To share responsibility for professional standards in the laboratory and ensure compliance with the standards required to satisfy UKAS Ltd. To share responsibility for the Clinical Haematology Service, including liaison with Clinicians, other hospital staff and General Practitioners, in the diagnosis and management of Haematological disorders. To participate with the other Consultant Haematologists in the management of the Department. To demonstrate a firm commitment to Clinical Governance including participation in effective Clinical Audit and continuing Medical Education. To contribute to management within the Trust through the appropriate Division. Participation in the multidisciplinary team meetings relevant to the post. Take joint responsibility for the professional supervision and development of training and non-training grade posts in the department. Participate in the system of consultant cover for annual, study and professional leave. Maintain good communication with all members of the multidisciplinary teams. Ensure good communication with GP and other agencies such as Palliative Care Services. To be involved in clinical trials, work and co-ordination. To ensure mandatory training is up to date. To ensure own practice is up to date this will include taking responsibility for own Clinical Professional Development. Comply with all relevant trust policies and procedures. Person Specification Qualifications Essential MRCP or equivalent. You must be on the specialist register for Haematology or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise. Desirable Relevant higher degree. Experience Essential Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Haematology. Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the specialty. Understanding current issues within Haematology and the future direction of the specialty. Understanding current issues within the wider NHS. Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions. Desirable Wide based experience in Haematology. Attendance at a recognised management course. Teaching Essential Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff. Desirable Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications. Training in clinical and educational supervision. Attendance at a teaching course. Formal qualification in teaching/education. Audit and Research Essential Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes. Desirable Critical Appraisal Skills. Evidence of knowledge of research methodology. Practical/Intellectual Skills/Personal Qualities Essential Ability to use IT Systems - inc Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook. Evidence of innovation. Desirable Evidence of continual learning and development. Understands self (strengths and weaknesses) and impact of behaviour on others. Access to own transport. General Essential Eligibility to work in the UK. Ability to work in various locations throughout the network of services provided by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required.
