Responsibilities include:
Ward rounds of our footprint of 94 inpatient beds.
Assessment of new and follow-up patients presenting to same-day emergency care (SDEC).
Full participation in an acute medicine rota covering 0800-1600 and 1600-2100 shifts.
Weekend ward rounds on a 1-in-6 basis (WTE).
Responding to results appropriately and liaising with other teams as required.
Key Skills:
Oversight of all team activity during clinical sessions, providing support to registered and non-registered clinical practitioners when needed.
Providing appropriate supervision to resident doctors, ACPs, and clinical practitioners.
Administrative duties related to patient care.
Contribution to medical education activities, including for members of the multidisciplinary team.
Regular participation in departmental and directorate meetings.
Supporting the Trust in emergencies in addition to appropriate on-call commitments.
We are looking for high-performing individuals to join our existing team of Acute Medicine Consultants at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Our team consists of thirteen Acute Medicine Consultants and Specialists supported by a wider team of consultant colleagues specializing in Respiratory, Diabetes, Infectious Disease, Renal, and Intensive Care.
Our department is at the forefront of Acute Medicine service development, supported by the largest Acute Medicine research team in the UK, based in the University of Birmingham, and a large number of secondary and tertiary specialists. We are using these assets to develop new ways of front-door working and value new colleagues with an interest or experience in quality improvement methodology.
As a University teaching hospital, we support education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Our department includes an Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Short Stay ward, as well as a Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC). Opportunities for teaching are available in our simulation suite and clinical skills area. Other areas of special interest are encouraged.
The standard job plan is 10PA, but less-than-full-time working is welcomed. The breakdown of job plans will be agreed with successful candidates, using a standardized tool to ensure parity between colleagues.
