The Acute Medicine Department at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals is supported by 7 WTE substantive consultants plus a number of long-term locum consultants and the following medical team: 3 Specialty Training Registrars 2 Core Medical Trainees 4 ACCS Trainee 3 FY1 3 Physician Associates The team along with GIM colleagues see approximately 30,000 patients each year, in both an inpatient and same day emergency care (SDEC) setting (split 50:50). The SDEC unit is supported by 16 qualified and trainee advanced clinical practitioners. Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post will include: Provide on-call and consultant-present care across our sites, with a primary focus on the acute Medical Assessment Unit (AAU) at Pinderfields Hospital and on Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) at Pinderfields Hospital. Each team member takes a share of consultant-present evening and weekend duties, along with the general medical on-call team. Daytime Duties:

Part of the scheduled weekly timetable (below) with four consultants providing concurrent wards in close liaison with a fifth consultant who provides ED in-reach assessment and coordination with the Emergency Department. Support is provided by specialties within the hospital. Weekday Evenings:

Scheduled rounds are provided until 2000 on a (planned) 1:16 basis and will include overnight on-call cover, paired with a Respiratory consultant who leads a parallel round. Weekend Daytime:

Scheduled rounds are provided 0900-1700hrs on a (planned) 2:8 basis as part of the GIM on-call rota paired with a respiratory consultant who leads a parallel ward round. Weekend overnight on-call cover is 1:16. Support for medical subspecialties is provided by separate on-call teams. There is a separate GI bleed rota (provided by Gastroenterology). There is Critical Care support with level 2 and 3 care facilities. Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call schedules will take account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working. Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles. Specialist skills as part of the AIM curriculum will also be supported. All consultants at the trust are provided with secretarial support and an adequately equipped office, which includes IT facilities. Time off in lieu is currently supported at the trust for consultants who have worked a weekend or bank holiday on-call shift, subject to prior agreement with the divisional management team. About us
