The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking consultants in general anaesthesia with a subspecialty interest in thoracic anaesthesia to join the team based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. The successful applicant will join a group of 45 substantive consultants within the general anaesthesia group. The post will be offered at 10 PAs. Interview date is February 3rd. Main Duties of the Job
This post will be based at the Bristol Royal Infirmary with lists at Weston General Hospital. The post will address a flexible service requirement for adult general anaesthetic services for maxillofacial, ENT, dental, obstetrics, gynaecology, thoracic, upper & lower GI, hepatobiliary, ophthalmic surgery, fixed lines, trauma, acute and chronic pain, and pre-operative assessment. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the general on-call consultant rota (currently approximately 1:22). The role will be split across the following hospital sites: Bristol Royal Infirmary, St Michael's Hospital, Bristol Eye Hospital, South Bristol Community Hospital, and Weston General Hospital. UHBW is a teaching Trust with close links to Southmead Hospital and the University of Bristol. There is a strong tradition of teaching in the department, and we support the running of Bristol Medical Simulation Centre, based at our site. The applicant must hold FRCA (UK) or equivalent and be within 6 months of their CCT date at the time of interview. We are looking for applicants who are prepared to work flexibly to ensure smooth service delivery, and there is opportunity to develop a specialist interest. Qualifications & Training
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Anaesthesia or evidence of being within six months of the award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview FRCA or equivalent Evidence of a specialist interest in thoracic anaesthesia Experience
Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective - including anaesthesia for major upper and lower abdominal surgery, thoracic, maxillofacial, ENT, oral surgery, ECT, and obstetric surgery and interventions Evidence of a specialist interest in at least one of the following areas: regional, advanced airway anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, obstetric anaesthesia Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients Evidence of developing a specialist service or demonstration of innovation in chosen sub-specialty area Evidence of advanced training in at least one of the following areas: Maxillofacial, ENT, Pain, Lower GI, Upper GI, Hepatobiliary, Pre-operative assessment, Vascular access, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics, Gynaecological anaesthesia Clinical Knowledge and Skills
