We are excited to be looking for a new colleague to join our expanding team of substantive consultants based in North Wales. We are currently looking for a number of Clinical Oncologist Consultants in a range of sub-specialities to strengthen our workforce so that we can provide the best care to the people of North Wales.

The Cancer Division is going through a process of change and is keen to embrace new models of working and innovation. We have recently welcomed Physician's Associates and increasing numbers of Advanced Nurse Practitioners following successful business case applications. We have also recruited our first Consultant Radiographer and we are exploring various technologies to support the service. The North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre is ideally located at the centre of the region and caters for large volumes of patients daily. All three cancer treatment centres in North Wales have been funded by public donations and we are lucky to have such passionate and supportive communities. The successful candidate will be based in Glan Clwyd Hospital. There is an on-call element to the role and you will be required to take part on a 1 in 8 basis. The successful candidate will be appointed to the amended Welsh Consultant contract.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist oncological services to the population served with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate oncology subspecialties and to be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams.

To develop a site specialist and research interest on both hospital sites. This will include developing clinical research and entering patients into appropriate national and international studies.

To provide regular ward rounds for oncology inpatients on Enfys Ward, North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre & in the main hospital site as necessary.

To work closely with clinical consultant colleagues and to provide seamless cancer care for all patients.

To work closely with colleagues in other Divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between the different disciplines and during the patient journey.

To liaise with colleagues in oncology, haematology and palliative care to provide inpatient cover for oncology patients.

To develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence-based medicine.
