Consultant in Critical Care with a subspecialty interest

Consultant in Critical Care Medicine (single or dual specialty applications welcome, including those with a subspecialty interest). These posts are for Consultants with responsibility to Adult Critical Care (and associated specialty where applicable) at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) - a busy medium-sized district general hospital in Cheshire within an hour's drive of Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke on Trent, and Wolverhampton. The posts have arisen due to a retirement as well as a desire from the Trust to strengthen its Critical Care service. The posts would suit motivated applicants who wish to help develop the critical care service as we progress with our new hospital programme and aim to meet the needs of an expanding service. Suitable candidates that apply for these posts will be eligible for an enhanced SPA package to support their professional development in a specific area. Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will join the existing team of substantive Critical Care Consultants and provide medical cover for a modern 11-bedded Critical Care Unit (combined intensive care and high dependency unit with ability to flex to 18 beds in times of clinical need) in a trust that is in the early phases of an extensive estate renewal programme (part of the New Hospitals Programme). The current Consultant team are a cohesive group with a diverse range of interests (including global health, palliative care, Critical Care airway management, and regional major incident management). The contract will be for 10 programmed activities (PAs). It is envisaged that there will be a split on average of clinical duties into 5.5 PAs in Critical Care and 2.5 PAs in the associated specialty. However, there is some flexibility in this to accommodate specific clinical interests of the successful candidates, including the ability to offer a single specialty Critical Care job plan. Additional programmed activities to support a greater commitment to an allied specialty will be considered. Consultants work to deliver continuity of care on the unit. Activity is led by a consultant of the week (Mon-Thu 8am-6pm followed by Friday MDT Chair 11am-1pm). Weekends are split and rostered separately to support sustainable working patterns (Friday 8am-1pm/Saturday 24 hours or Friday/Sunday 24 hours). There is a second Consultant intensivist of the day (8am-1pm Mon-Fri) who supports unit activity and the Critical Care outreach service. The on-call Consultant takes handover from the daytime Consultant between 5pm and 6pm. Please see job description for further information. Person Specification
Qualifications
Full Registration with the GMC and a Licence to Practise. CCT (or equivalent) with entry on Specialist Registers for Intensive Care Medicine and the Associated Specialty or within six months of anticipated CCT date. MBBS or equivalent. An appropriate higher qualification such as a postgraduate qualification. Minimum of 1 year worked within NHS. FFICM. EDIC. Experience
Clinical training and experience in Intensive Care Medicine to the standard required for gaining UK CCT in ICM. Strong interest and experience in ICM. Teaching Experience
Eligibility to be a GMC recognized Clinical Supervisor. Active regular participation in teaching and training of medical and paramedical colleagues. Eligibility to be a GMC recognized Educational Supervisor. Experience in medical education including regional teaching. Life support course instructor. Clinical governance
Active consistent engagement with clinical audit. Ability to develop evidence-based practice. Regular commitment to continuing medical education. Evidence of reflective practice. Evidence of implementing change to improve patient care. Involvement in clinical research. Presentations at regional and national meetings. Publications in peer-reviewed journals. Personal Attributes
