The appointee will be asked to fulfil various duties within the department, these include:
Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Service across the Trust and to maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of General Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology. Lead our type 1 service to help remodel it for the future, with a particular focus on provision for young adults and building on our current expertise in using diabetes technologies. Work with our paediatric colleagues to enhance our transition service. Take on the medical leadership of the inpatient diabetes team to build on the excellent work that has been done over the past few years, particularly looking at streamlining surgical pathways and ensuring a system is developed to allow timely follow up of patients following discharge. Develop skills and provide teaching for the doctors in training in their department. Share with their consultant colleagues the roles of clinical supervisor / educational supervisor, which will involve the provision of supportive formal appraisals to doctors in training at regular intervals, induction at the beginning of their contracts and career advice as appropriate. Assist with Clinical governance and Audit duties.
