Diabetes & Endocrinology Services
A full range of diabetes services are provided at LNWUH including transitional clinic, young adult clinics, diabetes, and insulin pump clinics. Each site provides a specialist multidisciplinary foot service supported by a team of dedicated podiatrists who also provide inpatient support. There is close liaison with the vascular surgeons and a trust-wide Foot MDT held every Friday. Antenatal clinics are delivered at Central Middlesex Site and at Northwick Park Hospital. There is a strong team of Diabetes Specialist nurses at each site, professionally managed by a cross-site Diabetes Nurse Consultant.
Endocrinology clinics are offered on all sites. A wide range of endocrine disorders are seen including benign thyroid disease, thyroid lumps, lipid disorders, calcium disorders, adrenal and pituitary disease. Facilities for investigating endocrine diseases include MRI scanner on site, nuclear medicine scans, access to ambulatory care or endocrine nurse specialist led testing and genetic testing. We have access to regional MDT's in thyroid, pituitary and adrenal diseases. Radio-iodine for benign thyroid disorders is available at the Northwick Park Hospital site within the trust.
Main duties of the job
General Internal Medicine
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the ongoing care of Endocrinology general medicine inpatients on a rotational basis. Whilst on the ward, the post holder will undertake a daily morning ward round and morning board round Monday to Friday.
The post holder will contribute to the acute on-call rota covering emergency admissions and ambulatory care.
The post holder will undertake four clinics per week, with clinic commitments reduced when allocated to covering inpatient care. There is a standardised template for clinics in line with RCP guidelines.
The post holder will attend the MDT either in person or virtually. They will also contribute to the triaging of Endocrinology/Diabetes clinic referrals on the vantage system and to the review of ward referrals to the service.
The post-holder will contribute to the ongoing care of the general medicine patients at Ealing Hospital site on a rota basis and will also be involved in the provision of specialty endocrinology input to the medical admissions unit and Emergency Department.
The post holder will supervise junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team in addition to undertaking undergraduate teaching.
