Join us at Ravenswood Forensic Secure Hospital as a Consultant in Adult Forensic Psychiatry. You will provide vital care and treatment within a specialist secure unit, working alongside a collaborative multi-disciplinary team to offer expert assessment, diagnosis, and care for adults with complex psychiatric needs. With 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, this role provides a balanced focus on direct clinical care and professional development. Ravenswood Hospital provides a supportive environment dedicated to recovery and patient-centred care. You will be supported by a full and expanding complement of multidisciplinary colleagues, including a medical secretary, resident doctor(s), clinical psychologist, social worker, occupational therapist, and nursing staff. To support our patients' physical health, there is a visiting GP and dentist. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to: Act as an Approved/Responsible Clinician for patients subject to the MHA. Participate in the weekly referrals meeting and undertake assessments for suitability for admission to low and medium secure wards. Liaise with statutory and non-statutory agencies to assist in the management of mentally disordered offenders. Offer training to professionals. Participate in the on-call rota. Develop a clinical leadership role within the MDT team and across the service, working with colleagues and the senior leadership team to ensure optimal service delivery. Participate in business planning for the locality and contribute to the broader strategic and planning work of the Trust. Lead the improvement of quality of care within the team and system. Provide assessments of prisoners thought to require hospital admission. Act as the Responsible Clinician for detained patients, with Mental Health Act duties and active participation in Care Programme Approach reviews. Conduct detailed psychiatric assessments, developing care plans, and monitoring treatment outcomes. Lead clinical decision-making and risk management within a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patient safety and recovery-focused care. Provide clinical oversight and guidance to team members, supporting a collaborative approach to complex cases. About us

Qualifications

Full Registration with the General Medical Council To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post MRCPsych or recognised equivalent Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register as a Forensic Psychiatrist or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview. Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 Experience

Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service Additional Criteria
