Consultant in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a substantive Obstetric Consultant with a specialist interest in Fetal Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious team at our Birmingham Women’s Hospital site which has 7,400 births per year. This is a newly established Consultant post and we are looking for someone who is Ambitious, Brave and Compassionate and with a commitment to continually improve our services, which have just been rated green by the CQC. This postholder will be part of the Obstetric maternal and fetal medicine service, working closely with colleagues in the direct team and across Obstetric services and networks. The successful persons will be responsible for: Research and Development activities Delivering high quality care in fetal and obstetric services Work alongside the fetal medicine team with the potential to assist and develop future innovations in prenatal surgery This post is advertised as a full-time role; however, applicants wishing to be considered for a position with fewer sessions are welcome to apply. The post holder is required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice medicine at this level. Our Fetal medicine unit provides a full range of diagnostic and fetal interventional procedures including fetal blood sampling and transfusion, fetal drainage and shunting, fetoscopic laser ablation for severe twin to twin transfusion and radiofrequency ablation for selective reduction in complex monochorionic twin pregnancy. It also acts as the referral hub for the Midlands and much of Northern England (Leeds, Yorkshire, Manchester areas) for complex twin pregnancies receiving approximately 100-150 such referrals a year.
