Work collaboratively with senior colleagues to provide a service in obstetrics and gynaecology with responsibility for specific areas (such as certain MDTs lead roles) and generalist practice or sub-specialisms as agreed with the Head of Department. The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team is essential. Applicants must be both flexible in their approach and be ready to meet the challenges presented by the evolving health service changes in South Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of work including outpatient clinic sessions in obstetrics and gynaecology, labour ward and gynaecology operating theatre lists. Additionally, the post will carry a 1:8 on-call. About us

The Department The Medical Staffing establishment of the Department is 12 Consultants, 1 CESR fellow, 1 Specialty Doctor, 8 Specialty Registrars (ST3 and above) rotating within the region, 1 ST1/2 and 6 GP Trainees. The Post The Gynaecological Service The gynaecological inpatient unit is located on Ward B11. At present, there are 14 beds. A full range of gynaecology procedures are provided including advanced laparoscopic and urogynaecology surgery, advanced ambulatory procedures and colposcopy. We are a cancer unit offering early stage cancer surgery, with the advanced surgery being performed at our local cancer centres in Sheffield. The Obstetric Service The Obstetric unit conducts approximately 2600-2700 deliveries per year. The Maternity Unit currently has 23 beds and a Level 2 neonatal unit. Consultant presence on the Delivery Suite is 62.5 hours a week. There are resident evening sessions with non-resident on-call overnight. The Neonatal Service The neonatal unit is designated as a Local Neonatal Unit (level 2) working in conjunction with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. There are 14 cots including 3 intensive/high dependency cots. The department works in close conjunction with the obstetric unit and the neonatal network to ensure effective care of extreme prematurity and complex antenatal problems. Person Specification

Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC Please confirm your GMC registration number Eligible to be included on the Specialist register - CCT expected within 6 months of interview date MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification Higher medical degree Ability and Skills
Delivery of acute clinical care Good leadership skills Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies Enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure Good organisational and management skills Supportive and tolerant Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team Caring attitude to patients Ability to lead Ability and competence in gynaecology care and surgery Surgical experience Research and Audit
Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit Relevant research published in peer review journal Management Skills
Demonstrate effective team working skills Time management and organisational ability. An example may be they have developed and run training programmes Proven knowledge of systems and process of NHS or equivalent Sense of understanding and commitment to corporate responsibility Capacity to be alert to dangers or problems. Demonstrates awareness of good clinical decision making Aware of own limitations Some record of engaging clinical governance, reporting errors, learning from errors Evidence of active participation in audit Evidence of interest and experience in guideline writing Experience
Ability to offer acute Obstetrics and Gynaecology care as the Consultant Other criteria
