University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry to join our friendly team at the Bristol Dental Hospital.

The role includes all aspects of oral health in children, and the successful candidate will be required to contribute to patient care and teaching.

This is a full-time 10PA position, but candidates wishing to be considered for part-time are encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership, dental advice, and treatment within the specialty of Paediatric Dentistry and for patients requiring oral and dental rehabilitation.

The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

New patient referral clinics

Personal treatment of complex oral rehabilitation cases

Clinical teaching at postgraduate level

Multidisciplinary planning and review clinics

Opportunities exist to develop your passion in research, teaching, and clinical service. Collaboration is strongly encouraged across Dental Specialties. The post holder will be expected to show drive and initiative towards patient care, putting the patient first in line with the Trust's core values.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training

Full registration including specialist list with the General Dental Council (GDC) or

Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or

Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview

Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Paediatric Dentistry (or equivalent) or within six months of completion

Membership of appropriate Medical or Dental Defence Society

Successful completion of a Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) approved training program in Paediatric Dentistry (or equivalent), or within 6 months of completion

Additional post-CCST development over 2 years as recommended by SAC in Paediatric Dentistry, or equivalent

Higher academic qualification *

Evidence of high-impact publications

High level recognition of their teaching, such as a postdoctoral qualification or Fellowship of Higher Education Academy or equivalent

Membership of relevant professional organisations relevant to Paediatric Dentistry

Experience

Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in relevant specialty

Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

Developing and running undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes, at the appropriate level

Demonstrable experience of unsupervised clinical practice in Paediatric Dentistry

A track record of leadership and management of a multi-disciplinary team

Ability to appraise scientific literature critically

A working knowledge of clinical governance and effective participation in audit and quality improvement

Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust's service strategy

Management of clinical service

Management of academic staff

Evidence of teaching innovation with objective markers of teaching quality

Evidence of publication in high-impact scientific journals

Ability to prioritise, organise time appropriately and work independently

Clinical Knowledge and Skills

Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty

Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty

Broad range of IT skills

Clinical Governance and Audit

Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies

Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation

Positive approach to evidence-based practice

Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation

Knowledge of the principles involved in research

Evidence of involvement in research

Evidence of peer-reviewed research papers

Teaching and Training

Experience of teaching medical students.

Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team

Formal teaching qualification

Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it

Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a specialist service

Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant

Ability to practice independently as a consultant

Ability to take on responsibility and show evidence of leadership

Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks

Demonstration of knowledge of NHS management structures

Interpersonal, communication and team working skills

Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff, and other colleagues.

Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English.

Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
