We are looking for an enthusiastic haematologist to join the current paediatric haematology consultants with a focus on malignant haematology and stem cell transplantation.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess MB ChB or equivalent qualification and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric Haematology and its related specialties including malignant haematology and stem cell transplantation. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share. About us

In relation to this post, we are looking for an enthusiastic haematologist to join the current paediatric haematology consultants with a focus on malignant haematology and stem cell transplantation. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST To provide, with consultant & multi-disciplinary colleagues in the paediatric haematology and oncology team, an emergency and elective regional service for children and young people with haematological disorders, with particular responsibility for leukaemia and haematopoietic stem cell transplant. To share on-call responsibility with the other consultants in the paediatric haematology and oncology team. This comprises an attending on call for the whole service and also a commitment to the non-malignant haematology telephone advice on call rota if appropriately trained. If the appointee is trained appropriately to join the non-malignant haematology rota for telephone advice, then their attending on call commitment will be reduced. To provide advice and support to the other paediatric specialists in Leeds Children's Hospital and to those caring for children and young people in other hospitals who refer to Leeds. To participate in the multi-professional paediatric clinical governance programmes, and clinical management meetings. To participate in education, supervision, and training of junior medical staff. To participate in the active departmental research programme and/or develop appropriate research interests that will benefit the service. To be responsible for the day-to-day care of the paediatric and young adult haematology inpatients with haematological disorders, including leukaemia and those undergoing stem cell transplantation or receiving advanced cellular therapies. They will be supported in this by the paediatric haematology consultants, the paediatric haematology registrar, the adult haematology registrar, the paediatric haematology and oncology fellows, the haematology and stem cell transplant advanced and clinical nurse specialists and the paediatric oncology team. To share responsibility for the general anaesthetic lists which take place in the haematology day unit and in theatre carrying out haematological procedures (typically lumbar punctures, bone marrow examinations and bone marrow harvests) if these skills have been part of their training. If the candidate has the FRCPath then they will also share the morphology reporting with the haematology consultants and haematology registrars. Person Specification

Understanding of current issues in the NHS. Well organized and skilled in good time management. Effective interpersonal skills. Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team. Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process Attendance at recognised management course. Specifically, must demonstrate higher specialist training in Haematology or Haemato Oncology. Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances. Should have completed a recognised training programme in Paediatric Haematology or Oncology in the UK or an equivalent health care system. Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research. Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. Experience of participation in regular clinical audit. Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff. Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
