Plymouth offers an exciting and substantial public health challenge; a coastal city with significant deprivation, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to apply creativity and innovation to the support of health and wellbeing for a population of approximately 263,000 in Plymouth. Plymouth City Council, and its partners across the city, have taken a system-wide approach to the development of a ‘vibrant waterfront city where an outstanding quality of life is enjoyed by everyone’. The post holder will have a senior role within the organisation and will make a significant strategic contribution to the overall Public Health objectives of improving health and reducing inequalities. They will work with local communities and in partnership with other local agencies to address the wider determinants of health, to protect the health of the population, and to ensure the commissioning and provision of high-quality primary and secondary health and social care. Each of the Consultants in the team has lead areas, and for this post, they centre around substance misuse, health improvement, and public mental health, with connections into healthcare public health as required, with corresponding budgetary and management responsibilities. This post can be full time or part time for a minimum of 0.8 FTE, with some flexibility around working hours or a job share.
