Applications are invited for the appointment to a substantive post as Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The post will comprise 10 PA and non-resident on call. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join a friendly and progressive Obstetrics and Gynaecology department. The post has arisen consequent to consultant expansion, following a review of the service needs in light of recently published Maternity Safety Reports. The post holder should have experience in Obstetrics with an interest in Obstetric Governance. They may also have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department. Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to provide strong professional clinical leadership in Obstetrics to ensure excellence in care provision which is responsive to women and their family's needs. The post holder will be the deputy governance lead who is responsible for overseeing the running from patient safety incidents, supporting PMRT, ensuring guidance is up to date, supporting the patient safety team, implementing quality improvement and ensuring adherence to national standards. This role will also include supporting multi professional training. Support for personal and professional development and leadership training will be provided to allow you to further develop the services and provide high quality woman centred care. As there is a gynaecological component to the job it would be desirable to have gynaecological skills to support this. The on-call component currently carries a mix of both components, but if obstetric only on call is desired, this may be negotiable. The successful applicant will be expected to: provide high quality patient centred Consultant-led obstetrics and gynaecology services. undertake general duties associated with a post in obstetrics, including labour ward sessions, antenatal clinics at Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe Hospitals, support general gynaecology clinics and gynaecology operating lists relevant to skills. work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to offer expert opinion and considerate advice to women with complications in any stage of pregnancy. develop the Obstetrics service by working closely with other colleagues to standardise pathways of care. Co-chair the Governance and PMRT forum as well as evolve and write, in line with Trust governance policies, pathways for patients seen within the Obstetrics service. work closely with our PDM Team in delivering training to both Obstetricians and Midwives. work collaboratively with the inpatient matron and the Obstetric Lead in improving flow through the unit. provide senior leadership in the management of high-risk patients antenatally, intrapartum, and postpartum in close co-operation with other specialties. be fully involved with the teaching and training of medical staff within the Department and work closely with the RCOG College Tutor in this respect. take part in the induction programme for resident medical staff, participate in GP training and teaching of medical students. participate in the recruitment of resident medical staff. ensure proper delegation to and training of resident junior medical and nursing staff. support with undertaking incident investigations. Experience in risk management would therefore be essential. provide leadership for resident medical and midwifery staff on the labour ward with proactive consultant input to the care of women and their babies as essential to the post. participate in the Consultant on call rota, with internal cover. undertake administrative and managerial duties associated with the post including attendance at and contributing to departmental meetings. participate in consultant appraisal, audits and academic events. The post holder will share responsibility with all the consultants in the Department in providing dedicated consultant presence on the delivery suite throughout the week. It is a key aim of the CDU to ensure provision of consultant presence without any interruption across the entire week during the year. The labour ward sessions are dedicated and covered as hot weeks, and the consultant will be present on labour ward and not cover any other session while on labour ward. Person specification

Full registration with the GMC Possession of MRCOG or equivalent CCT or Register eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC Desirable criteria
