Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist - FGH

This is a full-time Resident Consultant post in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. It is a replacement post and attracts 10 Programmed Activities including a Tuesday night resident on call once a week and 1:9 day time weekends. The duties include Gynaecology and Ante-natal outpatient clinics, special interest clinics, operating sessions, and labour ward cover. The post holder will be expected to assist the gynaecology cancer lead in the running of Gynaecology Cancer MDT meetings, two-week wait clinics, and early-stage cancer operative treatment where these have been devolved by the regional centre for local treatment. It would be expected that you would not be covering services on other sites or in private practice when on call. We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC MRCOG An obstetric based ATSM ATSM acute gynaecology and early pregnancy Experience
Experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT Active involvement in clinical audit Experience of contributing to requirements for CNST or other external regulators Skills, Ability and Knowledge
Sound understanding of risk management Ability to draw on evidence to contribute to departmental guidelines IT and presentation skills Personal Qualities
Good leadership skills Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies Enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure Good organisational and management skills Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team Willing and able to travel to other sites of the trust Disclosure and Barring Service Check
