Consultant Paediatrician in Neurodisability Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust This post of Consultant Neurodisability Paediatrician has become available within the Trust's Cambridgeshire Community Paediatric services. This post would suit either an experienced Paediatrician looking for a change or a newly qualified consultant who is looking to improve the outcomes for children within a community setting.

The post holder will be part of a team of experienced Community Paediatricians providing a wide range of services to children in the community. The post holder will be expected to have experience and training in the assessment and management of Neurodisability disorders within an MDT assessment team.

The applicant will be required to support the safeguarding rota in whom child abuse and neglect has been suspected. All Consultants take part in the 'On Call' daytime advice and assessment service for Safeguarding.

At the present time there are no out of hours or weekend work commitments.

The Job plan includes 8 PAs Direct Clinical Activity (DCC) and Supporting Clinical Activity (SCC) and 2 PAs Supporting Professional Activity (SPA), with extra SPA time available for specific responsibilities.

The post covers all of Cambridgeshire but is principally to support services in the north of the county.

Administration support is provided within the service. Clinical work is also delivered in some special educational schools.

Main duties of the job

Assessment and management of complex physical disability.

The post holder would be expected to have a good working knowledge of tonal management and complex care management including epilepsy, ideally supporting the outreach epilepsy service in special schools.

Provide healthcare to children up to 19 years of age in a local SEND school, including medical advice related to their disability, multi-disciplinary assessment and management of children with complex physical disabilities, supporting transition plans and safeguarding.

Contribute to regional Safeguarding rota providing medical assessment for children with non-acute safeguarding concerns.

Support teaching and training of medical students, Community and Neuro-disability trainees, educational and clinical supervision.

Ongoing contribution to service development and evaluation.

Job responsibilities Assessment and management of children with neurodisability/neurodevelopmental disorders including complex physical disability, autism, ADHD and learning disability in a community setting across Cambridgeshire.

Person Specification Qualifications

MRCPCH or equivalent.

Experience in the assessment and medical management of children with neuro-disability.

Experience in assessing and managing children with special educational needs and social paediatrics, including safeguarding (Intercollegiate safeguarding training at Level 3).

CCT in Paediatrics with relevant experience in Community Paediatrics/Neurodisability. The applicant must be within 6 months of obtaining his/her CCT at the time of interview.

Higher Medical Degree.

Appropriate experience in using specific assessment tools such as ADOS for communication disorders, developmental assessment tools (e.g., Bayley or Schedule of Growing Skills).

Expertise in epilepsy (PET 1-3).

Expertise in tonal management/complex care management.

Management

An enthusiasm for governance and clinical audit and a willingness to be involved in departmental management.

Evidence of service improvement.

A management course completed/experience in management.

Skills and Personal Qualities

Evidence of teaching experience and peer support.

Adaptable to various situations and capable of handling people of all capabilities and attitudes.

Evidence of service development and improvement.

Strong advocate of Community-based Children's Services.

Experience in developing multi-agency teams.

Publications, papers, and presentations; a relevant and continuing research interest.
