Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Consultant Paediatrician with Expertise in Cardiology. An exciting opportunity has arisen to develop the paediatric service in conjunction with the regional paediatric cardiology network. It is anticipated that the successful candidate, with the support of the cardiology network, will develop Cardiology Services for children in Barnsley in line with the needs of the local population. The post holder will also be expected to have at least 25% of their clinical work being related to cardiology and the remainder being General Paediatrics and Neonates (as Barnsley is a level 2 Neonatal Unit). In addition, we are looking for a candidate who has a strong interest in Medical Education. The successful consultant will be taking on a shared role of College Tutor.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the visiting tertiary cardiology Consultant to maintain and provide a high-quality paediatric cardiology service for Barnsley. They should expect to participate in joint cardiology as well as conduct independent cardiology clinics. This opportunity is ideal for a PEC to lead our vision for Paediatric Cardiology care locally.

Person Specification Experience Essential Experience and Training in Paediatric Cardiology Desirable Experience in Echocardiography Safeguarding and Clinical Governance Essential Expertise and experience of safeguarding at Specialist Registrar or Consultant level. Commitment to the development and maintenance of safeguarding skills. Trained to level three in safeguarding. Able to deliver high quality paediatric care. Knowledge and experience of clinical audit. Logical, analytical and self-critical approach to clinical practice. Desirable Experience of report writing and giving evidence in court. Expertise in Risk Management. Knowledge of Every Child Matters and implications of Health and Social Care Act. Personal Attributes Essential Flexible approach to working practices. Willingness to share administrative duties in the Hospital. Experience and enthusiasm to work in and with multi-disciplinary teams. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to lifelong learning. Motivated to advance and develop paediatrics. Qualifications Essential MRCPCH or equivalent. CCT in General Paediatrics or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview. Desirable Higher degree such as MD or MSc. Teaching and Research Essential Experience of formal and on the job clinical teaching. Commitment to under- and post-graduate and multidisciplinary teaching and training. Enthusiasm to teach clinical skills. Understanding of research techniques and design. Ability and commitment to practice evidence based medicine. Desirable Experience of organising teaching programs or specific teaching events. Expertise in innovative teaching or training methods. Postgraduate course in teaching/training (T5 or similar). Published research. Commitment to continuing research. Published papers in area of special interest. Management Essential Sufficient skills in managing time, paper and people to enable efficient organisation of consultant practice. Understanding of and commitment to a clinical network.
