The candidate will benefit from working within a friendly and experienced team. This is a countywide post where the applicant will participate in a 1 in 8 rota covering the neonatal unit and one in 16 weeks covering the paediatric assessment unit (PAU), and also perform general paediatric clinics primarily at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital (Redditch), and Kidderminster Treatment Centre. Additional clinics operate at Malvern and Evesham Community Hospitals. This post is for a consultant in neonates based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The post holder will have the majority of their duties based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital but may be expected to undertake outpatient clinics in a variety of settings around the county: Redditch, Evesham, Malvern, and Kidderminster. It would be expected that the applicant has prior neonatal SPIN or equivalent experience. About us

This job description, together with the job plan, will be reviewed annually and agreed with the Clinical Director and Divisional Director, on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post, and purchaser requirements. A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners. The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners, and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high-quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients' home. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc., and job plans may be revised in due course. The post-holder will provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital. The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care. The appointee will have a continuing responsibility to their patients and will be expected to undertake all administrative duties associated with this care. All consultants will participate in the on-call rota, including the consultant of the week, when they will supervise and teach junior medical staff as required. The appointee will be expected to take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate training. The department is committed to a regular intake of medical students from Birmingham University for their paediatric module. There is also a thriving regional GP vocational training course ensuring a high calibre of GP specialty trainees, and some will have experienced paediatrics in their foundation year training. The appointee will be expected to take part in clinical audit, guideline development, and clinical incident reporting and monitoring, as well as general administrative responsibilities within the department. In addition, he/she will be expected to undergo regional training to ensure effective educational supervision for allocated trainees. Person Specification

Qualifications

Full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise. Entry on GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date) via one of; CCT or Portfolio Pathway (Formerly CESR) or European Community Rights. Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent. Valid BLS, APLS, and NLS. SPIN in neonates. Experience

Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in Paediatrics. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients. Expertise in sub-specialty. Management and Administrative Experience

Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively. Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service. Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities. Ability to manage and lead the specialty firm and multi-disciplinary team. Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit. Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate. Ability to use evidence-based and clinical audit to support decision making. Teaching Experience

Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff, and other disciplines. Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates. Ability to supervise postgraduate research. Personal Attributes

Ability to work in a team. Enquiring, critical approach to work. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other agencies. An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives, and issues. Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call. Research Experience
