Consultant Physician with an interest in Respiratory Medicine

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant Physician with an interest in Respiratory Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.

Our client is one of the largest acute and community providers in the West Midlands, having more than 850 beds on one of the main sites. The Trust also has 56 and 54 rehabilitation beds at two other sites. They are one of the largest employers in the Midlands, employing over 10,000 staff, covering more than 350 different roles. In the last few years, the Trust has reinforced its position as a leading healthcare provider with various achievements that include: Rated outstanding in caring in February 2020 by the CQC following an inspection, a new 2.4 million Stroke Unit opened at the main site in 2018, setting the UK record for days without a healthcare-acquired MRSA bacteraemia (1142), and a more than 60% reduction in MSSA bacteraemia.

The successful appointee will be asked to undertake various duties, which will include: Provide and develop acute medical and respiratory services for the Trust in collaboration with colleagues in all disciplines including primary and tertiary care. Take ongoing responsibility for patients under their care. Participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching program. Work with colleagues to recruit patients to NIHR trials on the respiratory portfolio. Develop special skills and interests appropriate to the agreed overall development of the service. Demonstrate involvement in clinical governance, risk management, and clinical audit. Take joint responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors in the Department. Contribute to the bronchoscopy service which includes EBUS. Take an equal share of general acute medical takes and be responsible within the consultant based ward system for continuing care, including the provision of a 7-day service. Be on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.
