Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) provides pre-hospital critical care to the people of Dorset and Somerset in collaboration with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWAST). DSAA critical care teams are composed of a specialist practitioner - critical care and a critical care consultant level practitioner. The critical care teams are tasked by SWAST to medical and trauma patients requiring critical care skills within the South West. All clinical activity is governed by SWAST. The service is currently operational 19 hours per day, 365 days per year, with plans to extend operating hours to 24 hours a day in the next 5 years. Main duties of the job

To perform the duties of pre-hospital critical care consultant complying with DSAA and SWAST standard operating procedures and governance. To deliver high quality critical care to all patients encountered on behalf of SWAST. Provide education, support and mentoring to ambulance clinicians. Actively engage with all aspects of governance of the DSAA pre-hospital critical care service. Support DSAA charity activities. About us

The post is fully funded by DSAA , via the employing acute NHS trust. The post is for 3.5 PA per week for 42 weeks per year. 2.5 PA are direct clinical care and 1 PA is other clinical activity. Annual leave and study leave are funded and available through the employing acute trust. The DSAA funding allows for career increments to be awarded by the NHS trust. Annual performance reviews are undertaken in the Autumn/winter each year to collaboratively determine ongoing employment with DSAA. Person Specification

Education and qualifications

MBBS or Equivalent medical degree. Postgraduate medical Qualification in base specialty (e.g. MRCPCH, FRCA, MRCP, FRCEM, FFICM). Full registration & license to practice with GMC on the specialist register. Hold a consultant position in an NHS hospital. Diploma in Immediate Medical Care (DIMC). Fellowship in Immediate Medical Care (FIMC). Pre-hospital emergency medicine sub-specialist on the GMC specialist register or accredited with the faculty of pre-hospital care as a level 8 practitioner. Training in major incident management. Up to date life support and trauma life support courses for adults and children. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
