An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant to join CNWL NHS FT Health & Justice Services.

We are looking for a Consultant who is passionate about prison psychiatry and can deliver outstanding clinical leadership to the mental health team. This Post is ideally suited for a Consultant who enjoys assessing and treating challenging and unusual mental and physical health clinical presentations in a complex long term environment. Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care to the residents of HMP Highdown To develop their own specialist interests and if appropriate to bring these in line with Trust and local service development Teaching and training of specialist nurses, other nurses and prison staff where appropriate. To contribute to the maintenance and development of Health & Justice services within the Trust to the highest standard through clinical audit and other activities related to Care Quality.

Job responsibilities

Clinical activities typically involve seeing patients in ordinary location for a new assessment or follow up. Patients can be brought to outpatient area when the prison regime moves out of lockdown. The postholder will be expected to attend clinical team meetings on Tuesday or Wednesday, attend relevant prison meetings for complex cases as required.

The post holder will be expected to provide direct psychiatrist input into prisoners suffering from mental disorder. This will include providing outpatient appointments and also an element of crisis and risk management. It will involve contributing to weekly MDT meetings with partnership agencies in the prison and also chairing a weekly zoning meeting/caseload review with the mental health team. In addition, the post holder will be expected to contribute to Parole Hearings and meetings where requested and coordinate referrals and transfers to outside agencies and hospitals where needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months Approved clinician status Section 12MHA Approval Primary Medical Degree CCT in Forensic

Desirable

Management and leadership course/qualification Higher degree (Msc, LLM, MD or PhD) MRCPsych

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Clinical leadership/management experience Track record of improving quality in a service

Experience of job planning Experience of resolving conflict and complex performance management issues
