There is a vacancy for a full-time (10PA) consultant post to work in Cedar Ward, a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) based at West Park Hospital in Darlington. This is a replacement post and an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team working in a dynamic and highly specialised environment.

Cedar Ward is one of two PICUs within the trust, taking referrals for patients based in the geographical areas of Durham, Darlington, Easington, Northallerton, and Harrogate. The unit provides psychiatric intensive inpatient care to acutely unwell and disturbed clients, aged 16-65 years, and includes a seclusion room. Clients generally have to be detained under the Mental Health Act prior to admission.

Main duties of the job

Cedar Ward provides a multi-disciplinary service for people whose psychiatric or psychological condition requires treatment in a controlled environment with a higher ratio of staff to patients. The unit emphasises multidisciplinary team working, recognising that the complex clients it serves require efficient, effective, collaborative approaches to assessment, formulation, and treatment planning. The unit is committed to Force Reduction drivers, both local and national, and to enhancing the client experience of care.

Essential Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment Included on the GMC Specialist Register for Old Age Psychiatry OR included within six months Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Desirable In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
