It works in conjunction with, and is integrated with, other local service elements. Key features of the service are: it is available 12 hours per day, 365 days per year, it responds quickly and works closely with the Single Point of Access, acting as gatekeeper to inpatient and emergency services. Service users usually remain under the care of the team for 2-6 weeks. The post-holder will adopt a pragmatic leadership style ensuring collaborative working both at a clinical and an operational level.

In addition, the Northwick Park Mental Health Unit has an ECT suite, two adult wards, the home treatment team, the psychiatric liaison service, and the Harrow management team. Consultant and junior doctor offices are based within the management suite. This ensures that the ward staff feel part of the broader Harrow mental service.

In line with the NHS 10-year long-term plan, CNWL is committed to embedding Open Dialogue and a Trauma Informed Approach across our mental health services. All adult staff already receive training and supervision in this approach; our plan is to rollout both Open Dialogue and Trauma Informed Approach for our older adult services.
