Job summary This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well established older adult community mental health team in an CQC rated Outstanding Trust in City & Hackney. You will join the other consultant already leading a the older adult CMHT MDT including a higher trainee and core trainees . You will have a range of community responsibilities within the service providing a holistic and assertive service for older people with severe mental illness. The team is based at a community clinic in Hackney Wick. It is about 5 minutes walk from Hackney Wick overground station, 1 stop from Stratford Station, a major transport hub in East London. Hackney Wick k is home to artist studios in former industrial spaces, quirky cafes, and creative eateries, along the River Lee Navigation canal. The Here East business centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park houses hip restaurants and startups, while Olympic sports venues nearby include the London Stadium, now home to West Ham United soccer team. Main duties of the job There is 1 post made available following the previous consultant moving to another role. The main duties of the post consist of providing consultant leadership, supervision and support to their team. The post-holder will participate, directly and indirectly, in the assessment of patients referred to the service and in drawing up coproduced care plans which will address the patients' psychiatric, physical, psychological and social needs, with the input of the whole multidisciplinary team. Good communication will be undertaken with the patient's GP and workers in the team. When a review of the care plan is indicated, the post-holder will participate in such reviews and include the GP, carer or any other relevant professionals. The post holder will also provide clinical supervision to resident doctors allocated to the team. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent Fully registered with the General Medical Council Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT). Membership of the Royal College Of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with RCPsych Guidelines) With or eligible for Approved Clinician status (MHA, 2007) Desirable Higher Degree in relevant area Knowledge Essential Experience of clinical work in Older Adult Psychiatrist at ST4-6 or Consultant level in the last three years Experience and knowledge of psychopharmacology. Experience of working in adult psychiatry services in the community Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act Understanding of the social aspects relevant to psychiatry Desirable Knowledge & experience of recovery-informed service delivery and working with patients as experts by experience Clinical Skills Essential Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and provide leadership to the team Expertise in risk assessment and the use of evidence based interventions for the treatment of psychosis, mood disorders and co-morbidities Confidence in therapeutic risk taking Commitment to clinical governance Teaching Essential Experience in teaching junior staff Good teaching and communication skills Ability to train and supervise junior medical staff and medical students / staff from other disciplines Experience of teaching non-medical mental health professionals Desirable Medical education qualification Research Essential Able and willing to teach medical students and lecture on undergraduate and MRCPsych courses Desirable Interest & willing to supervise research, audit or QI projects. Published research Personal skills Essential Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to manage complex workloads and support others to do that Commitment to working with service users in ongoing services development. Cultural sensitivity, ability to work with a diverse population. Commitment to continuing professional development. Desirable Management, performance and leadership courses.
