We are looking to appoint a Consultant Radiologist in Paul Strickland Scanner Centre, which is based at Mount Vernon Hospital and is equipped with state of the art equipment: a Dual Source/dual energy CT (Siemens), three MRI scanners (1.5T Siemens), two PET-CT scanners (4 multi-detector PET-CT and a 64 multi-detector PET-CT), and a Sectra PACS/RIS system. There is an on-site Cyclotron producing PET tracers.

Main duties of the job This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing Radiologists to provide a high standard of care. We are seeking a consultant with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues in Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and throughout the organisation. The post holder will supervise, and report investigations performed mainly cross-sectional imaging using CT and MRI and potentially a small PET/CT element. There are specialty leads for each modality in place. The post also provides the opportunity to develop research projects in the Centre. We provide a range of opportunities for career progression and encourage CPD, in-house training and further study. Job description Job responsibilities Maintenance of high-quality patient centered care Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity Active participation in continuing medical education Person Specification Qualifications/Training Essential Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register FRCR Membership or qualification of an equivalent level Desirable Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) Knowledge Essential Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice Previous Experience Essential Broad range of experience in Oncology, in particular cross-sectional imaging, and subspecialty training in a lead area Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion. Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice. Desirable Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
