Consultant – Radiologist with a Subspecialist Interest

The successful applicant will be a General Radiologist with an interest in paediatric and/or gynaecology radiology.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. It serves a population of around 430,000 people, a figure that can increase significantly with visitors during the busiest times of the year.

If a newly appointed consultant, the successful applicant will be eligible to apply for additional study leave to undertake up to 3 months additional subspecialty radiology training to meet specific learning objectives that are of benefit to the applicant and the Clinical Imaging Directorate at RCHT. This additional study leave must be taken within 2 years of appointment. There may be a requirement to participate in the on-call rota during this period of additional study leave.

The successful candidate will join a team of 30 Consultants providing a wide range of general and specialist radiology services and will be expected to contribute to the second on 1:11 general radiology on-call service. First on call is provided by Peninsula Radiology On Call, a network Registrar delivered service. Provision with Consultant Colleagues of appropriate Subspecialty Radiology services to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. The provision of general elective and emergency radiology services to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. Support and ensure the efficient functioning of the Clinical Imaging department and service. Out-of-hours responsibilities, including weekend working and participation in the Consultant on-call rota. Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorized absences. Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. Contribution to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity. Participation in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD. Managerial responsibilities where appropriate. To comply with the IR(ME)R 2000. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Entry in the GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Radiology, or eligible for such an entry on the Register, or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent at time of interview. FRCR qualification. Desirable Wide medical or surgical experience. Post graduate medical qualification. Clinical Experience Essential Extensive clinical training and experience in appropriate subspecialty radiology. Completed (or within 6 months of completing) the RCR appropriate subspecialty curriculum (or equivalent). Ability to contribute to the appropriate subspecialty departmental workload. Ability to contribute to the general departmental workload. Desirable Post CCT subspecialty training in subspecialty radiology. Management and Administrative Experience Essential Experience of audit. Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets. Desirable Attendance at management course. Teaching Experience Essential Ability to teach clinical skills and the radiology curriculum to radiology registrars. Desirable Experience of teaching medical undergraduates and/or radiology trainees. Research Experience Essential Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems. Desirable Publications in peer-reviewed journals. Disposition / Adjustment / Attitude Essential Ability to work in a team with good interpersonal skills. Enquiring, critical approach to work. Caring and professional attitude to patients. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies. Ability and willingness to work hours of the post. Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit. Additional Circumstances Essential A Disclosure and Barring record check satisfactory to the organisation. Speak fluent English to at least I.E.L.R.S level 7.5. Current and valid Visa to allow work in the UK. OH clearance. Receipt of three satisfactory references. To live no more than 30 minutes travel from the hospital for on-call category A rota. The post-holder must have access to their own transport and the ability to travel within and outside of the county, sometimes at short notice, when required.
