Applications are invited from an enthusiastic and motivated consultant surgeon for a newly created post(s) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The successful candidate(s) will join a team of 9 vascular surgeons and associated clinical teams delivering high quality vascular care in four hospitals across Nottinghamshire. You must possess a UK recognised medical degree and a Fellowship of one of the UK Surgical Colleges or UK recognised equivalent. You will need to hold full GMC registration, be eligible to be included on the Specialist Register or be within six months, at time of interview, of obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training. Main Duties of the Job

Provision with consultant colleagues of a comprehensive elective and emergency vascular service. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of the department. Active role in clinical governance. The Vascular department is based at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. There is a 28-bedded ward dedicated to Vascular Surgery (E16) and the successful post-holder will share an office with an existing consultant in close proximity to the ward. We are engaged in performing complex vascular surgery including open and endovascular operations and have close links with Interventional Radiology colleagues. Nottingham was the first Trust in the UK to perform endovascular surgery and continues to be a driver for this type of surgery. The Vascular department at NUH is the hub part of a hub-and-spoke model with Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust where we deliver clinics, day case surgery, ward rounds and teaching clinics and MDTs. Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

A full range of vascular emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under his/her care. The vascular team also supports the East Midlands Major Trauma with vascular trauma cases when on call. These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, his/her Consultant colleagues, and the Trust. The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times. Each consultant is expected to take an active role in clinical governance activities including (but not restricted to) clinical audit, incident reporting, review of complaints, risk management, CPD and Evidence-Based Practice. Each directorate has a Consultant Clinical Governance Lead. Both main campuses of the Trust are major centres for undergraduate and postgraduate education and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Vascular teaching also takes place at the spoke hospital on a regular basis. The Trust works to ensure the best possible placements and training for both undergraduates and junior doctors and to ensure consultant trainers & teachers are developed and supported.
