This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing service within the Community Directorate.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse educated to degree level to join the adult bladder and bowel service.

The base for this post will be Innovation House, Bishop Auckland. This is a Countywide Community post, so locality work will be required according to service need. This role involves a mixture of working within clinics, home visits, care homes, and an office environment.

The post will allow you to work in a specialist service and develop specialist skills, knowledge, and expertise in bladder and bowel dysfunction. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of an innovative and forward-thinking community-based team. You will make a valuable contribution to the way local bladder and bowel services are organised and delivered in order to provide high quality, cost-effective services to people living in County Durham and Darlington.

The role is supportive of family-friendly hours, working predominantly Monday to Friday (day hours, eg: 08:30-16:30).

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have a passion for delivering high-quality care to people with bladder and bowel dysfunction. You will be dynamic and caring with excellent communication skills as patient education and support is an important component of the job.

Prior experience and an in-depth knowledge of issues in complex bladder and bowel dysfunction is essential, as is the promotion of continence care.

Working autonomously to triage, allocate work tasks, and adhere to deadlines in order to provide high-quality evidence-based care.

Experience of change management, quality improvement processes, and recent ongoing nursing development is a requirement.

Knowledge of budgetary control, IQEW, and clinical supervision is also a requirement of the post.

Clinical community experience would be desirable, as would a knowledge of appraisal and HR skills, but not essential.

Job responsibilities

Assessment and management of patients with complex bladder and/or bowel dysfunction.

Performing clinics and home visits within County Durham and Darlington, these will be a combination of telephone and face-to-face assessments and reviews.

Leadership and management of the service and staff as required in the absence of Lead Nurses.

Contribute to service and policy development as well as being able to provide education and training.

Qualifications

Essential

Teaching certificate or equivalent Evidence of continuing professional development at post-graduate level IT skills In-depth knowledge of complex issues in bladder & bowel dysfunction

Desirable

Independent / Community prescribing qualification Leadership / Management development course (or willing to undertake) Knowledge of budgetary control

Statutory Registration

Essential

First level registered nurse with the NMC First degree
