An opportunity has arisen for a Contracts Lawyer to join Waverley Borough Council on a full-time basis of 37 hours per week. The role allows for hybrid working, making it ideally suited to those seeking flexibility. As Contracts Lawyer, you will join a friendly and supportive team and advise on all aspects of contract and procurement law and policy. You will have conduct of your own caseload and deal with varied and stimulating work on the cutting edge of contract law. Key Responsibilities:

Provide legal advice and guidance on contract law, policy, and procedures. Timely response to legal instructions to ensure they meet agreed performance targets. Being the Council’s negotiator on the legal aspects of contract and procurement transactions. Drafting contracts and agreements relating to all aspects of the Council’s business e.g., building, construction and civil engineering contracts, IT contracts, service contracts, works contracts, procurement documentation, instructions to Counsel, and reports, including complex and substantial documentation. Undertake research to provide advice to the Council in areas of contract law specifically and local government law generally. Provide pragmatic advice across a range of local government work, providing appropriate solutions that are legally and constitutionally compliant. Provide advice and assistance to other members of the legal team in respect of contract and procurement law matters. About you:

Be a qualified solicitor with a valid practising certificate, barrister, or CILEX fellow. Experience of working in commercial contract law including procurement; any additional experience of other areas of the law (Litigation, Planning, Property, or Corporate Governance) would be beneficial. Be an excellent negotiator, with first-rate communication skills at all levels of seniority. Rewarding you:
