We’re looking for an embedded software engineer to join our experienced engineering team and deliver transformative laser communications technology. You will be responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining the embedded software in our ground stations, enabling reliable control and autonomous operations, and interfacing with external systems. In this role, you will work closely with people across our engineering team, supported by our software team. Your responsibilities will include working on a combination of the following areas, and you will need to have had commercial experience within a number of these areas: Implementation and development of hard real-time algorithms and software control systems on embedded platforms High speed (1Gbps+) comms protocol implementation (forward error correction, clock recovery etc) Hardware, IoT, and networking protocols, inc I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, EtherCAT, gRPC, MQTT, ZeroMQ, and IP protocols Producing reliable, autonomous software that interfaces to cloud services / IoT systems. Contributing to the development, integration, testing, and operations for optical ground stations Continuous improvements of the software processes, including developing automated tests Specific requirements: Embedded C / FreeRTOS (or similar RTOS) C++ / Python / embedded Linux Experience with more complex embedded processors / SoCs, such as multi-core and FPGA based systems, esp Xilinx FPGA/MPSoC and associated tool chain (Vivado, Vitis etc) Git version control At least 2 years commercial experience across a range of projects and systems, especially in an aerospace or similar environment Desirable additional skills: FPGA development and integration CI/CD pipelines, scripting, test automation, HIL testing Yocto Linux / Petalinux build experience. UML / SysML, especially with Enterprise Architect; Experience of software architecture and systems engineering Experience and interest in space industry, optical comms, and related standards (CCSDS, ECSS, SDA etc) Location:
