You will be providing a counselling service to unpaid carers in mid & south Essex. The service is based on a model of brief solution-focused therapy where carers receive up to 6 sessions of counselling which supports them with the difficulties, challenges and issues that can arise from their caring role. Counselling is delivered face to face, virtually or on the phone, depending on the needs or wishes of the carer. Skills
This role is for counsellors who: Are studying for a counselling qualification and need to complete a set amount of hours in order to qualify Want to make a real difference to people’s lives Have empathy and understanding for the challenges that unpaid carers face What we ask from you
As part of our volunteer recruitment process, we will ask for references and will complete background checks. Provide evidence of your fitness to practice from your training provider. Take up to 3 clients at a time. Attend supervision regularly. Sign our Volunteer Agreement and agree to follow our policies and processes as set out in our Counselling Volunteer Handbook. What training and support will you receive?
You will need to complete some e-learning to cover mandatory topics such as safeguarding and GDPR. There are opportunities for ongoing training, usually provided online, in other topics. You will be allocated a supervisor who will support you with your therapeutic work. You will have access to support from the Counselling team with other issues.
