Are you making work in the North of England? Yorkshire Dance seeks Dance Partners for 2024-25.

Where: Leeds, UK

When: 12/6/2024

Deadline for applications: 13/5/2024

Yorkshire Dance are seeking applications from artists based in the North of England to take part in their Dance Partner Projects scheme for 2024-25.

About Dance Partner Projects

Dance Partner Projects is open to artists who live or create work in Yorkshire or the North of England. The programme aims to provide dance artists/companies at different career stages with an opportunity to research and develop a new or early-stage artistic project.

The 3 artists or companies selected for Dance Partner Projects will benefit from:

  1. £3,000 seed funding to be used as match for a funding application or to cover a research residency.
  2. Up to 3 weeks of research time in our studio.
  3. Support from Yorkshire Dance’s Artist Development team, including project development, producing, fundraising, connecting with specific participants or audiences, dramaturgy, etc.
  4. The potential opportunity to present work-in-progress at the annual No Dress Code scratch night.
  5. The opportunity to show work within one of Yorkshire Dance’s Encounters Festivals, where thematically appropriate and dependent on timing.

What they are looking for

Yorkshire Dance are passionate about supporting dance artists who ask questions of themselves, their work, and of the world. They help artists to develop the right contexts for their work, whether that be in theatres, outdoor or other non-theatre contexts.

Yorkshire Dance is looking for project proposals that align with one or more of their programme strands:

  1. Work for or with early years (0-5 years).
  2. Work which is co-created with intergenerational groups of people.
  3. Work exploring themes of age and ageing.
  4. Work developed by or with members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Yorkshire Dance believes that the climate crisis is one of the major issues facing our world and society at the current time. Therefore, they are particularly interested in project proposals that have a low environmental impact and/or aim to instigate positive environmental action.

Supporting access for dance artists with a learning disability and/or autism

Through ongoing partnership with Tin Arts, Yorkshire Dance is committed to supporting one artist with a learning disability and/or autism through this programme.

This artist/company will benefit from:

  1. An additional £1000 to support access costs.
  2. Support to create a plan with longer, slower processes for making work where needed.
  3. Support to identify access needs and create an access rider if required.
  4. Connecting into a network of other artists with a learning disability or autism in the North East and the North West.

Shortlisted artists/companies will be contacted by Friday 24 May to arrange an informal chat about their proposal. Selected artists will be notified by the middle of June at the latest.
