Data Engineer (Advanced), Enterprise & ETX Analytics

Full-Time, Boston/Springfield The Opportunity: As an Advanced Data Engineer, you will work in a fast-paced, innovative, and collaborative environment on exciting technology directives. Our ideal Advanced Data Engineer is a collaborative leader skilled in data analytics, data modeling, and database design. You’re also committed to data integrity, standards, and governance, are highly analytical, and can work on multiple projects at once. You’ll use your skills to develop, automate, monitor, and manage data systems across multiple data platforms. Additionally, you will act as a mentor to junior team members and coach them on best practices and engineering standards. The Team: The Enterprise & ETX Analytics Team consists of data and analytics professionals that are committed to delivering high-quality data analytics solutions to business groups across MassMutual. The work you’ll do will enable MassMutual Executive and Senior leaders to make data-driven decisions through strategic end-to-end reporting and analytics solutions. The team is focused on three data analytics portals: Strategic Data Analytics Portal, ETX Analytics Portal, and the IT Metrics Portal. Responsibilities

You’ll use your skills to develop, automate, monitor, and manage data systems across multiple data platforms. Act as a mentor to junior team members and coach them on best practices and engineering standards. Work directly with business partners across MassMutual to understand data needs and translate high-level business requirements into detailed technical specifications. Design, build, and measure complex ELT jobs to process disparate data sources and form high integrity, high quality, clean data assets. Work on a range of projects including batch pipelines, data modeling, and data mart solutions. Execute and provide feedback for data modeling policies, procedures, processes, and standards. Assist with capturing and documenting system flow and other relevant technical information about data, database design, and systems. Develop data quality standards and tools for ensuring accuracy. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering. 5+ years of experience with data analytics, data modeling, and database design. 3+ years of coding and scripting (Python, Java, Scala) and design experience. 3+ years of experience with Spark framework. Experience with ELT methodologies and tools. Expertise in tuning and troubleshooting SQL. Strong data integrity, analytical and multitasking skills. Excellent communication, problem solving, organizational and analytical skills. Able to work independently. Familiar with agile project delivery process. Familiar with business intelligence tools like Tableau, MicroStrategy and Alteryx. Knowledge of SQL and use in data access, data warehousing and analysis. Ability to manage diverse projects impacting multiple roles and processes. Able to troubleshoot problem areas and identify data gaps and issues. Ability to adapt to fast changing environment. Expertise in Python, Airflow, and pipeline automation. Experience designing and implementing automated ETL processes. Experience working in a cloud environment (e.g. AWS). Experience using data processing technologies such as Apache Spark or Kafka. What to Expect as Part of MassMutual and the Team
