As our dynamic and enthusiastic Manager, you’ll lead a team of engineers, facilitate skill development, and lead on prioritisation and implementation of data solutions and products within our technology stack. There is plenty of scope to build within an agile environment working with our Data Solutions Architect, Technical BA, Product Owner, Scrum Master, Data Analysts, Data Scientists, and business stakeholders. The data strategy is crucial to Saga’s DNA. You will have the chance to work across interesting products and implementations within mainly a marketing domain to deliver against the Saga growth strategy. We work in a hybrid way at Saga both at home and in the office. When you do come into the office, it’ll be with a real purpose in mind – to meet with your team, to work together, and of course to socialise and celebrate too! Main Responsibilities: Team Leadership – 30%: Manage and mentor data engineers within cross-functional agile squads, facilitating skill development and championing best practices. Review and understand core strengths and development areas of team members, proactively engaging, mentoring, and defining goals together to develop the team. Ensure efficient execution through workflows, motivation, consensus building, and leading change. Work Management – 40%: Work closely with our Product Owner, Data Solutions Architect, and Scrum Master to ensure optimal work breakdown based on estimation and prioritisation, ultimately driving delivery of valuable functionality to stakeholders. Leverage technical and domain knowledge to partner with business stakeholders and technical colleagues to understand data requirements and deliver innovative solutions aligned to our strategy and objectives. SME for Data Engineering – 30%: Be an expert in leveraging our technology to deliver solutions. Lead the team in the best adoption of Azure components, Snowflake, Talend, and BI tools. Collaborate and contribute to designing and maintaining effective data models to support analytics and reporting. Oversee the development and optimisation of ELT processes for efficient data movement, ensuring data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and performant. The Ideal Candidate: You will have already been a line manager or have a strong interest in leading a team in your next role. You will be comfortable working closely with key stakeholders in-house or client facing. Alongside team leadership, you will also be able to make hands-on engineering contributions. You will also need to demonstrate the following essential skills: Leadership and mentoring – Success or the desire to lead and manage a team of technical colleagues. Work Management – Ability to manage and deliver data engineering requirements on time, to high standards. Experience with modern applications used in the wrangling and transformation of data such as SQL, Python, R, etc. Extensive experience with Data Lakes and Data Warehouses delivering data products (models, analytics, reporting) to a broad range of vertical markets and business functions (e.g. finance, marketing, operations, travel, publishing). Agile Working – Experience in harnessing and improving cross-functional collaboration and delivering results in an Agile environment. Communication – Working with technical and non-technical counterparts, facilitating effective collaboration, transparency, and resolution. Problem Solving – Analyse complex data challenges, identify solutions and implement effective strategies. Continuous Learning and Improvement – Commitment to looking at market and technology trends to stay connected with advancements in the field. Saga Values:
